We have a nearly 3-year-old, large mixed breed dog– we were told Lab, German Shepherd and Shar Pei — who’s generally very healthy, but once in awhile will limp, after his much loved walks or sometimes in the morning. He seems too young for this. What could be the problem? Thank you for all you do.

Large breed dogs can be prone to developmental skeletal problems that can show symptoms at a young age. The most common of these is hip dysplasia and should not be confused with arthritis which usually does develop later in life.

Other such problems include osteochondritis and panosteitis. It is time to have your pet examined and radiographed.
