Treat Cat’s Nose Topically With Hemp Oil

First of all, I wanted to say thank you for doing what you do and offering your advice to people in need. We have a cat who is roughly 9 years old now. Because our situation has changed drastically we cannot afford to take her to a vet at the time being. For the last few months it’s seemed to get worse, we think it’s an infection. Her nose gets almost a crusty dry scabby look to it and at one point went from a pink nose to a totally scabby looking nose. We constantly have to clean her nose. Her one eye looks watery at times and pussy. When we wipe her eye sometimes it seems to have a pinkish red fluid to it. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain just irritated by it. We will be bringing her to a vet in December. I’m wondering if it is possible to try treating her nose topically with hemp seed oil? Or would it be a good idea to put it in her food? I’ve heard at times it can be unsafe to give cats hemp oil but have heard other stories as well that seem positive. I have a cold pressed hemp oil from Canada which stays refrigerated. Any suggestions?

Answer from Dr. Gaylord Brown:
We safely give cats hemp oil at the rate of 1 ml per 10 pounds body weight. This is about 1/5 a teaspoon. It would not hurt to use topically as an emollient. This may be a carcinoma on the nose so the sooner she is examined the better!.
