Leg Issue

« Back to Previous Page

My dog is limping and the only thing I can guess is that he jumped up into the SUV, and then jumped out. Ever since then he’s been limping and that was 2 days ago, so I’m not sure if I should keep walking him, wrap his leg or let him rest…Should I give him buffered aspirin?

If the dog is not using the limb at all it should be seen by a veterinarian right away. If your pet is using the leg but limping; rest is definitely in order. Buffered aspirin can safely be given to a dog as a first aid measure. A 60 pound dog can take one 325 mg aspirin daily for 3 days. I recommend the aspirin be given with an antacid, such as malox. Never give a pet other over the counter pain relievers! Never give aspirin to cats. If your dog is still limping after 3 days you should have him examined by a veterinarian.
