In December 2015, two years after his rescue in the wilderness, DUKE began showing signs of post distemper myelopathy. He became paralyzed — most dogs will not recover. But where there is hope there is a way.

DUKE started on cutting edge Cold Laser Therapy in April 2016. This Cold Laser Treatment stimulates healthy cell growth. And he also received Whirlpool Therapy to build muscle.

The on-site vet tracks his progress daily. The days are long and the treatments are tiring, but months later DUKE is walking!

D.E.L.T.A Rescue has been saving animals like DUKE for over 43-years. We are a No Kill Care-For-Life and right to life Sanctuary for abandoned animals.

We started in 1981 with one mission: To save animals who are abandoned in the wilderness.

A full Veterinary staff ensures that every animal is cared for. No animal at D.E.L.T.A Rescue has ever been killed for cost. As a non-profit we rely solely on support from people like you, and we get no government funding.. Please help us keep this facility going for years to come.

DUKE's recovery lasted over a year. But eventually he went down again and he passed away a few months later. We miss this courageous boy.

We made this video to show the magnitude of our 115-acre sanctuary. We are home to up to 1,500 rescued animals. No sound or silly music. Just sit back and enjoy!

We are dedicated to ALL animals, even the rodents, the birds, and the snakes. We routinely capture rattlesnakes at our sanctuary and we relocate them to a habitat far enough away from our animals that these reptiles will thrive and no longer be a threat. Snakes want to live too. Here is a beautiful gopher snake that seemed to enjoy her being handled lovingly, no doubt the only time in her life that will happen. It will be a sweet memory for her.

The dog and cat residents of the SuperSanctuary, were all personally rescued in the wild by Leo Grillo, founder and president of D.E.L.T.A. Rescue. Abandoned, sick and slowly starving, they were days away from certain death.

But at the SuperSanctuary, it is the joy of a rich and happy new life that greets the rescued animals. . . days filled with good food, playtime and the knowledge that they are not only safe but greatly loved.

Our founder, Leo Grillo, has invented the perfect solution to providing our dogs relief from the heat of the summer, and the cold temperatures of the winter by designing a stuccoed straw-bale adobe doghouse. With insulation value of R51, the dogs are 20 degrees warmer in winter and 20 degrees cooler in summer.

Buddy has arthritis in his mid-twenties. He stopped eating one day and that's what this video is about. Since then we stopped all meds to help his kidneys recover. His numbers are slightly elevated, but far from really bad. To keep him and the others hydrated we bought an ice machine. Three times a day they get ice in their water so they will drink it in the heat. That makes such a difference to their overall health and well being. "You can lead a horse to water ..." but they should have added ice and the proverb would be different!

The Sand Fire burned more than 52 square miles near D.E.L.T.A. Rescue. At the height of the danger to Acton, CA, the US Forest Service granted D.E.L.T.A.Rescue vendor status making their pond and helicopter pad a USFS asset. Being minutes form the fire, round trip, this water proved to be a game changer. Later the incident commander gave D.E.L.T.A.Rescue a citation thanking them for their water which saved tens of thousands of acres of wildlife habitat in the forest, and possibly up to 2,000 homes in Acton.

Little Red is the name I gave to our brush truck with the Phos Chek PC CODE 16 on it. It rounds out our sanctuary fire department, which includes three type 1 fire engines, a type 3 engine, two type 6 engines and a water tender.

The dog and cat residents of the Super Sanctuary, were all personally rescued in the wild by Leo Grillo, founder and president of D.E.L.T.A. Rescue. Abandoned, sick and slowly starving, they were days away from certain death.

More than 800 dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes live in huge yards that feature straw bale houses and a wading pool for those hot summer months. The insulating quality of the straw bale houses keep the dogs cozy warm in the winter and nice and cool in the summer.

The cats at D.E.L.T.A. Rescue live in houses with indoor/outdoor play areas. While outdoors they travel from perched "condo" to perched "condo" on a series of suspended walkways, able to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine without the threat of predators.

D.E.L.T.A. Rescue receives no help from the government and relies solely on donor contributions.
