My cat has a dark spot on his eyeball

I have tried to research this, but it just scares me. What do you have to say about this spot?

If this spot has been there for life and is not changing it may well be nothing more than a “birthmark”. If the spot just formed and is growing it could be as serious as a malignant melanoma. An exam is definitely in order.
