15 year old cat has started yowling

We have an indoor cat, about 15 years old who started yowling or what sounds like very loud yelling when my husband leaves the room she is in, it is so loud she wakes us up at night, even with the door shut. My question is what can we do about it? How do you get a cat to behave or to stop yelling? If we yell at her she just gets louder and if we ignore her she gets louder. She is diabetic under control and otherwise good health. Thanks for any input.

This type of vocalization is sometimes induced by an overactive thyroid gland. Have her thyroid checked. It is not uncommon for cats with diabetes to develop thyroid problems as well. Also, there is a possibility of separation anxiety. This can be treated with a drug called amitriptylline. We have had some success at the sanctuary in both of these situations.
