Labrador gets car sick

HI, just have to let you know that your site and rescue center is great. My question is about my 10 mo old lab. He loves to ride in a vehicle but gets car sick after about 10 minutes, is there any thing we can do for him to help with motion sickness?

Most dogs can be trained out of car sickness as it is generally due to anxiety as opposed to true motion sickness. Start with very short trips, frequently, to desensitize your pet. Try just around the block. Then praise the dog excessively when it gets out of the car without getting sick. Slowly extend the lengths of the trip. Usually this will stop the car sickness. A child’s dose of dramamine can be used on a 50 pound dog quite safely; however, this usually leads to drowsiness and probably works by sedating the dog.
