My 11 year old Lab has an elongated soft palate which the vet advises would be difficult to operate on due to bleeding. He is fit and well otherwise, but the coughing and choking is very distressing for him and us. Would a specialist surgeon be likely to consider this operation as a possibility?

Getting a second opinion from a surgeon is a good idea. A Board Certified Surgeon would definitely be able to do this surgery. It is important to make sure this is the cause of the coughing and choking. Other conditions that can cause similar conditions would be a heart problem or paralyzed vocal cords.
