My 11-yr-old Bichon has been put on Hill’s C/D because of chronic urine infections and struvite crystals in his bladder.

I hate the prescription foods because not only are they outrageously expensive, but they are crap! This one is basically packaged corn. What can I feed him instead?

We rarely use dog food designed to prevent urinary tract infections because in our opinion they rarely work as advertised. Instead we use regular urinalysis to detect early onset of infection, culture and sensitivities to use appropriate antibiotics, and cyclic antibiotics if needed. We also use uva ursi and cranberry extract for our limited mobility dogs as an aid to preventing urinary tract infections.
