My 13 year old Sheltie had oral surgery about a month ago.

He had approx 5 teeth removed with laser. Recently he will not let you touch the outside bottom of his jaw. I was able to get a finger in his mouth to feel around and I felt a sharp either bone or tooth. Could this have been missed during his oral surgery and causing him the discomfort?

I’ve also had to change his dog food due to allergies; scratching biting paws and tail, dry scaly skin. He was on Pro Plan Bright Mind Adult 7+ Chicken for about 8 months. Did show great mental response to it, but still had allergy issues. Recently started him on Blue Basics Grain-free Salmon & Potato mixed with couple teaspoons canned same formula & Licks anti-inflammatory. Seems to be doing well with it as far as allergy issues. Had couple loose stools. Think might be due to canned food. He was very restless last night and I think it’s due to the mouth issue. Hope all this info helps you with you expertise advise. Thank you. Kim

Your Sheltie definitely needs to have the jaw examined and possibly radiographed. There may be a spicule of bone causing the pain and lump which may have become infected. There may be a need for additional surgery. It sounds like you are doing well with the diet changes for the allergies.
