My Yorkie has a heart condition

Water is entering his lungs and he is coughing from lack of oxygen. I have him on pimobendan and furosemide.
pimo: 1.25mg split in 2 doses every 12 hrs. AND .5ml of furosemide every 12hrs. (10mg per ml).

He is still coughing, any other thoughts on what I can do to help my lil dog not suffer so much from breathing and not being able to run or bark because it gets his heart rate up and makes him cough.
He is 6 lbs. Yorkshire Terrier. 12 years young.

I am sorry your pet is having to go through this. At the Sanctuary there is much more that we would do. Increase the frequency of the furosemide to 3 times a day. Additional heart medication can be given, enalapril 1/2 of a 2.5 mg tab once a day. If the heart is enlarged and pressing on the trachea, torbutrol 1/2 to 1 mg 2-3 times a day. Have his blood pressure checked, if high, add medication for that like benazepril. Your Yorkie may need some exercise restrictions, but you have only scratched the surface with medications available for heart disease in dogs.
