Our Baxter needs to lose 10 lbs per the Vet. My husband and I disagree strongly on how much to feed him. Can you advise us, please. He is currently getting 3/4 cup of diet food with green beans and 1/4 cup pumpkin at each meal but is obviously hungry. I want to give more dry food. Am I wrong? He is a 7 year old Aussie rescue who has just started a 30 minute walk per day.
My 11 yr old cat has a medium length coat. He has been throwing up or having diarrhea off and on over the past couple months. He eats high quality dry and canned food: Instinct, Origen, Tikki, Weruva & fresh water). I’ve given him petromalt type of hairball relief because he has had hair balls off and on most of his life. I brush him to his limited tolerance. I feel at this point he may need to see a Vet although I haven’t been totally confident with current Vet. I also am having financial problems and can’t afford to go Vet shopping right now. He’s a wonderful cat, very playful and silly. He hasn’t had any changes in activity or hunger. I’m appreciative of any advice or insights you can offer. And lastly, I want you to know how much I wish you were still on tv. I was a faithful viewer. I do realize that in devoting all your time to DELTA, you are offering a wonderful gift to the animal world.
I have a 4yr old neutered Chihuahua that I found has a purple/blood like blister on the top of his prepuce just on the outside of the opening to his penis in the hair area. I very gently squeezed it and maybe a tiny bit of puss came out just below the purple area, but no blood. It looks like a blood blister we get when we’ve injured our finger. I’ve just left it alone after I did that. It doesn’t appear to cause him pain. I called my vet, but he can’t see him until next week. Should I be concerned about this? I took a photo of it, if you would like to see it.
Powder is 18, has cataracts, both eyes but get around very well. Every 7-10 days, she will not want to eat and then has a liquid bloody stool. She won’t eat for another day or so, but then next day eats and is fine with normal stool until this repeats. She has a heart murmur, (vet pills made her throw up) a small benign tumor on her chest, sleeps a lot. What could cause the blood & is there something I can give her for the blood?
My neutered male dog of older indeterminate age has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure which apparently grew out of an earlier heart murmur. He’s on Vetmedin, potassium and several diuretics. We’ve heard favorable things about Hawthorne berries as a possible help for him but his cardiologist doesn’t know what dose or whether it would interact with current medications. He’s about 22 lbs. Are you familiar with this product and what amount would be considered a proper dose? Would there be an interaction with the Vetmedin?
I have an 11 year old cat who on a recent blood test had very slightly elevated levels of BUN and CRE. For years I have been giving him a little Half and Half daily to try to get more moisture into him; A vet suggested this. He gets moist food in the mornings but won’t eat it in the afternoons so I feed him dry food then. Mice are also a large part of his diet. I am concerned about he phosphorus in the Half and Half. Should I stop giving him this?
We have two Yorkshire Terrier’s (both under 5Ibs). Both are being fed wet food only (kangaroo and parsnip for one and the other one gets wild rabbit and potato). We have recently started to add some nutrition into their diet as well. The reason for this type of diet is that one of them is highly allergic. Both of them have bad breath and plaque on their teeth that’s why we have decided on a professional cleaning for them. Neither one of them likes the tooth brush. Tried it many times but all attempts failed. Now that we are getting a fresh start on their hygiene we are wondering what else we might be able to do to help them continue to have healthy teeth.
I rescued a five year old cat that will not eat canned food at all. I’m concerned whether or not she is getting enough nutrients in her dry food. Should I be giving her some additional supplements?
Dr. Brown, I was reading the story on Ivy living with Kidney Disease for years and I was wondering what you did to keep him going. Minnew, my 14 year old, was diagnosed about 7 months ago. She gets fluids twice a week and we are keeping her thyroid high enough to keep her kidneys happy. She is also on Royal Canin RX food (and Solid Gold wet depending on her mood). She has her good and bad days. More good than bad. Any advice?
9 1/2 yr old Lab (service dog) is eating his own pooh.was told 1/2 t. Adolph’s meat tenderizer on kibble with bit of water would make his pooh smell repugnant to him and he would stop. Worked for a couple days -now he’s back at it. Don’t want to use it long term because it’s so salty. I am confined to wheelchair;husband had serious eye surgery ;must lie down on belly at least 2 more weeks. He used to clean it up immediately. Have to depend on kind neighbors to do it, so it accumulates a day or so.What can I do to help him, why is he doing it, could it be emotional or dietary?
My dog is limping and the only thing I can guess is that he jumped up into the SUV, and then jumped out. Ever since then he’s been limping and that was 2 days ago, so I’m not sure if I should keep walking him, wrap his leg or let him rest…Should I give him buffered aspirin?
I have an 11 year old male, neutered kitty (on of 10 rescues I have)that started sneezing 2-3 days ago and his right eye periodically looks weepy. He is, as they all are, an indoor kitty. He is eating, not a lot, but I am worried. Since I am retired and on a fixed income I can’t run to the vet with any little thing like I used to when working. But if you think I should, I will. Thank you Dr. Brown.
