Q (because her sister was Suzie--get it?) is almost 13, and I have had her 12 of those years. She has suffered from noise fears all her life. She will run away, go over brick walls, try to open door handles, and tear up my house to get away. One time she went over the wall which is about 4 feet on my side and 6 feet on my neighbors. She went through their dog door and jumped into bed with the man who lives there. This is sort of typical behavior or her. She is agility trained and VERY smart. I can always repair the house, but not my dog. She is on Rymadyl, Amatriplyn, Tradnazone, and Melatonin. They help. Is there anything else I can try?

My dog hit his canine tooth on the side of the furniture, and the tooth turned a pinkish color. His vet/dentist will clean his teeth and remove the growth that he has on his gums. He said that the dog should have a tooth extraction for the pink tooth or have a root canal done. There is no issue with the tooth right now. Exactly how important is it for the tooth to be removed?

I hate the prescription foods because not only are they outrageously expensive, but they are crap! This one is basically packaged corn. What can I feed him instead?

He had approx 5 teeth removed with laser. Recently he will not let you touch the outside bottom of his jaw. I was able to get a finger in his mouth to feel around and I felt a sharp either bone or tooth. Could this have been missed during his oral surgery and causing him the discomfort? I've also had to change his dog food due to allergies; scratching biting paws and tail, dry scaly skin. He was on Pro Plan Bright Mind Adult 7+ Chicken for about 8 months. Did show great mental response to it, but still had allergy issues. Recently started him on Blue Basics Grain-free Salmon & Potato mixed with couple teaspoons canned same formula & Licks anti-inflammatory. Seems to be doing well with it as far as allergy issues. Had couple loose stools. Think might be due to canned food. He was very restless last night and I think it's due to the mouth issue. Hope all this info helps you with you expertise advise. Thank you. Vinny is a 5yr old Frenchie. about 3 months ago he was napping and suddenly woke up startled, scared, yelping, couldn't figure out where to run first and emitting the oil gland smell. He has done this several times a day since, only 1 other time with the smell and not always as severe with the crying. but he is definitely scared and wants to get up close to my husband or me for comfort. we've checked him over for bone pain and he seems to be fine. his vet check ups are great last one was last week. vinny was stolen from the litter at 6 wks when we got him back his ears had been cropped like a pit bulls or dobies, short and pointy. is it possible he's having nightmares of those times. its so sad especially when he cries. its so distressing. hope you can help and thank you for your wonderful program and commitment to mans best friend.

I make enough meatloaf to last 2months and freeze it. She loves it! Chicken, rice, lean beef or buffalo, carrots peas and sweet potatoes, mashed garbanzo beans, chia, blue berry, cranberry, and peas and fish oil. She has firm stool and gobbles it up. She's a mini labradoodle and she gets 1 &1\2 to 1 1\3 cups a day. Is she missing anything? She just won't eat commercial food.

My 6 year old dog has had severe allergies during spring and summer times. She's alergic white oak trees and numerous other things that she is surronded by where we live.

Our vets are North Shore Animal League have tried numerous different medicines and even a steroid to help fight it, which all worked for a little while but now seem to have little to no effect. Not to mention the steroid changed my dogs personality completely, and we will never do that again. She was on Apoqul, Zrytec, a steriod (don't remember the name) and a few others I can't rememeber.

Any other suggestions to help fight her allergies to at least keep her comfortable during this time of the year, to the point where she isn't kicking and bitting herself non-stop.

Thanks!

Our vet said it is just what they call a fatty tumor and normally not cancerous and our dog appears fine but we were wondering if we should get it tested to make sure and also can it be removed and if so, does it make sense to remove it.

Many products, such as Parastar, Frontline, and Vectra, seem to work well for a few months, and then become ineffective. I'm having some initial success with Wondercide, a natural cedar oil-based product, for cats and dogs. Any information is appreciated.

My 16 year old shepherd/sheltie mix has arthritis, which has gotten worse in the last two weeks, to the extent that her back leg tends to collapse when she turns too quickley or goes down a step. She is currently taking carprofen and synovicre and the vet suggested shots if she does not improve. Do you have any other suggestions?

My 1 yr old female cat went missing for a couple of days when she returned she appears to be deaf & wild. she was mostly an indoor cat & very loving, now she acts as if she doesn't even recognize us. I put food out for her & she'll sneak up to eat it but runs as soon as she shes us. We live in a small rural community. Could she have been injured or gotten into some toxin that would cause this? She is spayed & we rescued her at about 4 weeks old.

He's smacks his mouth and lips all the time, even when there is water available. My husband brushes his teeth every couple of weeks now, but he is starting to get some tartar build-up. It seems like this just started over the last month though. Any ideas how what might be causing this, or how to take care of it? The smell is really nauseating and I feel badly, but I can't even stand to have him sit near me

My dog injured her knee on a hike, she favored her right hind leg for some time so I took her in for an xray. They said she damaged her knee, had a bone spur on it and should have surgery. They put her on a pain killer/anti-inflammatory medication which helped but she started limping again when she was off. Do you believe surgery is the only way? Would turmeric and other anti-inflammatory supplements help?

Dear Leo, I just read your story about Audrea. I have 4 rescue cats. The last 2 came from a close friend who died last year. Unfortunately, RolyPoly, who I suspect is quite old, was just diagnosed with severe kidney failure. I'm feeding him various forms of kidney diet and injecting him with fluids. You mentioned medication. Is there anything you did that would help RolyPoly? Or is his age a defining factor?

Incidentally, please add me to the 21st century club. You're one of two major beneficiaries in my trust. Thanks for all you do. I hope to hear from you if there's anything you can do to help my RolyPoly sweetheart.

Your story about Audrea was wonderful and as I read about her kidney issue at such a young age I thought about my old girl, 18 now, that was diagnosed at the beginning of kidney failure about 5 years ago and has done remarkably well on a supplement, Renavast. Audrea's success story is the best ending and I just wanted to mention the Renavast if you weren't aware of its successes. Bless you and all the rescues.

Hi, doctor, got an 11 year old mix, medium sized dog who recently has become restless and drinking a lot of water at night. We've gone through some recent changes in our household with the loss of one of our cats, my husband, who generally takes the dog with him to work, being gone for 3 weeks on business, and myself being diagnosed and treated for depression. Our vet has placed the dog on diazapam for 2 weeks, which seems to help sporatically. Obviously he is considering that the dog may be dealing with anxiety. Is there something else that we should be considering?\ Overall the dog has always been in good health.

This is what she said------- Hi Donna,I'm so worried about our dog Niko  Her red lumps have become all over her entire body and she has massive weight gain! Breaths hard like she is over heated. We can't afford doctors but she is still playful and wants held a lot still... Do you have any idea what could be wrong with her?

My cat has been experiencing what sounds like muscus in his chest. He does not have running eyes or nose. His vet gives him a Convenia shot and it clears up. However, in about two months or so it comes back. His vet thinks it might be asthma but to me he doesn't have the symptoms. Do you have a suggestion of what it might be?

Hello, My 2 year old corgi pluto really struggles to stand up after laying down and seems to avoid going up on our pet stairs to get on the bed and once in a while I will hear a clicking when he walks. We have scheduled some x rays for his hips but it will be another 2 weeks before he can go in. This has been an ongoing issue that has recently seemed to get worse and While researching it sounded like hip displasia to me. Do you know what can be done besides a total hip replacement if he does have hip displasia? Does this sound like hip displasia to you? Thank you,

He is in good health. When he licks he also starts to pull out his hair. Vets have checked his skin etc. Our vet says that he just might have a habit like we have biting our nails. Find clumps of hair at times around the house. Just doesnt seem normal. Thank you
