I have a two year old English bulldog and was wondering if it was safe to give her all of her meds daily without complications. She is on Benadryl, sometimes a pain pill and terramax pro for joints. Will, there be any complications if I give her all of these daily
Hello I have a 2 year old English bulldog and we are fighting seasonal allergies. She is constantly scratching and licking paws. Benedryl really not helping. And I also give her teramet for bones and joints. Would anything enterfier with this. thanks Tina
My dogs gets diarrhea with commercial food, of any kind so I make her food out of proper proteins, fruits and vegetables. What is your opinion?
I make enough meatloaf to last 2months and freeze it. She loves it! Chicken, rice, lean beef or buffalo, carrots peas and sweet potatoes, mashed garbanzo beans, chia, blue berry, cranberry, and peas and fish oil. She has firm stool and gobbles it up. She's a mini labradoodle and she gets 1 &1\2 to 1 1\3 cups a day. Is she missing anything? She just won't eat commercial food.
Vinny is a 5yr old Frenchie. about 3 months ago he was napping and suddenly woke up startled, scared, yelping, couldn't figure out where to run first and emitting the oil gland smell. He has done this several times a day since, only 1 other time with the smell and not always as severe with the crying. but he is definitely scared and wants to get up close to my husband or me for comfort. we've checked him over for bone pain and he seems to be fine. his vet check ups are great last one was last week. vinny was stolen from the litter at 6 wks when we got him back his ears had been cropped like a pit bulls or dobies, short and pointy. is it possible he's having nightmares of those times. its so sad especially when he cries. its so distressing. hope you can help and thank you for your wonderful program and commitment to mans best friend.
What is the best commercial food and why?
My 6 year old dog has had severe allergies during spring and summer times. She's alergic white oak trees and numerous other things that she is surronded by where we live.
Our vets are North Shore Animal League have tried numerous different medicines and even a steroid to help fight it, which all worked for a little while but now seem to have little to no effect. Not to mention the steroid changed my dogs personality completely, and we will never do that again. She was on Apoqul, Zrytec, a steriod (don't remember the name) and a few others I can't rememeber.
Any other suggestions to help fight her allergies to at least keep her comfortable during this time of the year, to the point where she isn't kicking and bitting herself non-stop.
Our vet said it is just what they call a fatty tumor and normally not cancerous and our dog appears fine but we were wondering if we should get it tested to make sure and also can it be removed and if so, does it make sense to remove it.
I am very concerned about what food to feed my cats, are you going to make your own cat food? and if not what do you feed the cats at the sanctuary?
He is eating and drinking water. He was sick three years ago. The Animal Medical Center said he would probably live only 6 months. I am trying to make him comfortable. Do you have any suggestions. Thank you
My 16 year old shepherd/sheltie mix has arthritis, which has gotten worse in the last two weeks, to the extent that her back leg tends to collapse when she turns too quickley or goes down a step. She is currently taking carprofen and synovicre and the vet suggested shots if she does not improve. Do you have any other suggestions?
Many products, such as Parastar, Frontline, and Vectra, seem to work well for a few months, and then become ineffective. I'm having some initial success with Wondercide, a natural cedar oil-based product, for cats and dogs. Any information is appreciated.
my dog sheds alot no matter what we try is the something you can suggest
My 1 yr old female cat went missing for a couple of days when she returned she appears to be deaf & wild. she was mostly an indoor cat & very loving, now she acts as if she doesn't even recognize us. I put food out for her & she'll sneak up to eat it but runs as soon as she shes us. We live in a small rural community. Could she have been injured or gotten into some toxin that would cause this? She is spayed & we rescued her at about 4 weeks old.
He's smacks his mouth and lips all the time, even when there is water available. My husband brushes his teeth every couple of weeks now, but he is starting to get some tartar build-up. It seems like this just started over the last month though. Any ideas how what might be causing this, or how to take care of it? The smell is really nauseating and I feel badly, but I can't even stand to have him sit near me
I'm have a 7 month old kitty diagnosed with wet FIP. He has been on Predisinolone 1ml daily and Virbagen Omega for 2 days. Will adding cannabis oil help or will it complicate the situation?
My dog injured her knee on a hike, she favored her right hind leg for some time so I took her in for an xray. They said she damaged her knee, had a bone spur on it and should have surgery. They put her on a pain killer/anti-inflammatory medication which helped but she started limping again when she was off. Do you believe surgery is the only way? Would turmeric and other anti-inflammatory supplements help?
Dear Leo, I just read your story about Audrea. I have 4 rescue cats. The last 2 came from a close friend who died last year. Unfortunately, RolyPoly, who I suspect is quite old, was just diagnosed with severe kidney failure. I'm feeding him various forms of kidney diet and injecting him with fluids. You mentioned medication. Is there anything you did that would help RolyPoly? Or is his age a defining factor?
Incidentally, please add me to the 21st century club. You're one of two major beneficiaries in my trust. Thanks for all you do. I hope to hear from you if there's anything you can do to help my RolyPoly sweetheart.
Your story about Audrea was wonderful and as I read about her kidney issue at such a young age I thought about my old girl, 18 now, that was diagnosed at the beginning of kidney failure about 5 years ago and has done remarkably well on a supplement, Renavast. Audrea's success story is the best ending and I just wanted to mention the Renavast if you weren't aware of its successes. Bless you and all the rescues.
My 10 year old lab pees when he's excited, is that good or bad?
Hi, doctor, got an 11 year old mix, medium sized dog who recently has become restless and drinking a lot of water at night. We've gone through some recent changes in our household with the loss of one of our cats, my husband, who generally takes the dog with him to work, being gone for 3 weeks on business, and myself being diagnosed and treated for depression. Our vet has placed the dog on diazapam for 2 weeks, which seems to help sporatically. Obviously he is considering that the dog may be dealing with anxiety. Is there something else that we should be considering?\ Overall the dog has always been in good health.
IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO SURGERY
they have been eating Petsmart, Simply Nourish dry, adult-chicken and turkey. a male and a female in good health
I have 3 cats. One of them is urinating inside. If I split them up to see who it is they don't do it. Is there another way to find out?
My cat has been experiencing what sounds like muscus in his chest. He does not have running eyes or nose. His vet gives him a Convenia shot and it clears up. However, in about two months or so it comes back. His vet thinks it might be asthma but to me he doesn't have the symptoms. Do you have a suggestion of what it might be?
My spaded female 2.5 yo Lab/Pit mix likes to smell me and try to mount and hump me. She doesn't do this to anyone else. Why and how do I stop this behavior?
Hello, My 2 year old corgi pluto really struggles to stand up after laying down and seems to avoid going up on our pet stairs to get on the bed and once in a while I will hear a clicking when he walks. We have scheduled some x rays for his hips but it will be another 2 weeks before he can go in. This has been an ongoing issue that has recently seemed to get worse and While researching it sounded like hip displasia to me. Do you know what can be done besides a total hip replacement if he does have hip displasia? Does this sound like hip displasia to you? Thank you,
He is in good health. When he licks he also starts to pull out his hair. Vets have checked his skin etc. Our vet says that he just might have a habit like we have biting our nails. Find clumps of hair at times around the house. Just doesnt seem normal. Thank you
Stray cat we let him from time to time decided to have her kittens in our apartment under my bed. I can't keep them. Mom is very friendly and the kittens are only days old please help.
What medications and natural nutrients are safe for my westie. Her COPD is severe. She was near death from pneumonia in December.
My dog limps (her hind right leg) when she first wakes up but moves perfectly fine after awhile. Do you think she has something like arthritis? We cannot afford to go to the vet and I would like to avoid xrays unless you think it necessary.
I have four senior kitties, the oldest will be 22 years old this year. They have different ailments ranging from kidney disease to mega esophageous (sp), for which they get medicine and subcutaneous fluids. Is there anything more you recommend to make them comfortable and content? Oh, two of them walk on leashes!!! Thank you so much.
He is stable, no longer on meds for it, eats well, but does the circling thing when on his feet, which is difficult for him as he has arthritis as well as urinary and bowel incontenence. He is on Prevacox for pain. Is there anything more I can do for him? Thanks
Oliver is a large breed, long bodied, long hair mixed 8 month old male Kitten who is currently 10 lbs. I think he is either a Maine Coon or possibly a Siberian mix. My question is how do I know if his weight is normal for a large breed mix or if he is actually over weight? He eats 1/2 cup dry premium food daily (dry food always avail but only 1/2 c daily) along with 3-5.5 oz of premium canned food daily (divided into am & pm feedings).
Ozzie ia about five years old. He's a shepherd/setter mix about 83 pounds. He belongs to a friend but spent six months at my house after being subjected to a very small crate 24 hours a day, too small to stretch out in. (Divorce thing). He is house broken and is a house dog. The divorce is over and he is back with his owner in the house where he was held "captive" by "her." Whenever he gets into the basement he poops. He also urinates on beds and futons. His hours are not consistent because his owner has different hours. His work is an hour away. His grandmother is going down every day to let him out and get rid of "evidence." He does not poop upstairs. Any idea what is really going on and how to stop it? Thanks so much.
