Q (because her sister was Suzie--get it?) is almost 13, and I have had her 12 of those years. She has suffered from noise fears all her life. She will run away, go over brick walls, try to open door handles, and tear up my house to get away. One time she went over the wall which is about 4 feet on my side and 6 feet on my neighbors. She went through their dog door and jumped into bed with the man who lives there. This is sort of typical behavior or her. She is agility trained and VERY smart. I can always repair the house, but not my dog. She is on Rymadyl, Amatriplyn, Tradnazone, and Melatonin. They help. Is there anything else I can try?

My chow/ border collie mix 13 year old started not eating, drinking a lot and urinating way less than she should. She had suffered from bladder stones, had surgery twice and won a battle with pancreatitis. He did tests and said she was in kidney failure and she would deteriorate very quickly, said her numbers were very bad. We sadly decided to put her to sleep. I had never been through this. I have since did some research. My vet only used one injection into the vein. I now know he could have given her a shot to sedate her first. Do you think she suffered any? She didn't seem to have any pain, I was with her, holding her.

My 16 year old shepherd/sheltie mix has arthritis, which has gotten worse in the last two weeks, to the extent that her back leg tends to collapse when she turns too quickley or goes down a step. She is currently taking carprofen and synovicre and the vet suggested shots if she does not improve. Do you have any other suggestions?

I have a 22 year old cat that often spends a lot of time in the litter box, mostly sleeping. This is a relatively new occurrence. Additionally, she often does not make it to the litter box, and seems not to care that she doesn't, and will just urinate where she stands. I believe that her time is near but am not sure how or when to make that decision for her. She doesn't do anything except eat, sleep and use that litter box. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a 14 year old Beagle who had, according to the vet, a yeast infection a little over a year ago. He would not let me get near his mouth with any medicine, even in cheese, etc. Therefore, I had to take him to the vet twice a day for them to administer the pills. The infection, if that is what it is, has returned. His hair comes out in tufts over all of his body and the skin has, for want of a better description, little dark seeds or beads, which come off with the hair when I brush him. I am no longer in a position to take him to the vet to have the pills administered and I am now unemployed. It is all I can do to send my regular gift to D.E.L.T.A. every month, much less expensive vet bills. Can you come up with any suggestions to help me help my dog? Thanks for all you do.

I was hoping you could help me with more details ore a direction to go. I am currently on disability and my akita husky suddenly stopped walking. I spent thousands of dollars with a wrong diagnosis of two torn ACL's. We only have xrays that doesnt show much of anything. She is taking Prednisone along with an array of meds to keep her out out pain and to stop anything that happened. This is the hardest desicion of my life and I desperately need an MRI to at least know whats causing her half paralysis. Least the next step will be easier. Please Help!

I have seven cats, a big house what all kind of cat toys, they're happy as can be period and well taken care of. Bandit is the cat that does not want to be around any other cats. I've watched her confined herself. When they walk by her. She will SWAT at them. I know she's an inbred cat. I adopted her when I moved into my former house. She was abandoned outside it was in the country and she loves to be outside. Summertime she would stay outside all the time. Winter time she wouldn't care about going outside always used the litter box sure. Which I do have 5 of them, sifter boxes. And I used scoop away period which has no odor and I keep very clean. But her and Puma my other female just do not like each other. At all. I've had Bandit for over 6 years Puma for 7 and I just don't know what to do I want them to be happy. And I can't find it in myself to get rid of Bandit. Bandit is smart. She gets in her little spot and when she sweats out she gets Puma on the face all the time. You would think Puma would have learned your lesson period but she doesn't her poor little nose gets scratched on the back of her neck get scratch done interface get scratch time and she's a beautiful kitty. And so is my little Bandit. They're both little kitties under 9 pounds. My vet suggested Prozac I think I have to look back at the text she sent me. Now friend of mine has a farm I could put her at back yet or should be a barn Cat by herself. I just don't know what to do. She will be taken care of at the farm 2. My vet also suggested she find her a home that she will be by herself with the owners. Maybe that's what I should do period I just hate move her.

Bailey came to us at 9 weeks old. We have had minimal success with getting him to stop the biting/nipping. We tried firm verbal discipline, we received a DVD when he came to us and it's stated we should hold him on his back firmly on his breastbone using the No Command. This helps some but he still hasn't stopped the behavior. Help!!

My friend whose husband had a cat before they got married is having a problem now because they just had a baby. For some reason the cat is going to the bathroom everywhere and not using the litter box. She has let the cat out and only lets it in the garage. The cat has been declawed and I told her that it is not safe for the cat to be outside. Is there anything she could do to solve this problem with the cat and baby. I feel the cat is probably jealous and doesn't feel wanted anymore. Thank you.

We found a beautiful abandoned young cat (about 1-2 yrs) who was desperate for a human family just a few weeks ago. Besides being thin we noticed he has a funny gait. We noticed the night that he would 'startle' awake while sleeping. We did not think much of this as he had been on his own for a while in a dangerous environment. We took him to the Vet to have him neutered and immunized. We found out that his kidney function was compromised and she put him on a k-d diet as his numbers were in the high-normal range. We also noticed that his sleeping 'startles' were really seizures. Sometimes they were scary where all his muscles go stiff, sometimes there is shaking or 'running movements' They usually wake him up but he goes right back to sleep and usually has a cluster of them over his nap time. This happens every day. Most of them are only a few seconds in length, even the longest and scariest was only about 20 seconds. The Vet says he needs to see a Vet Neurologist. The closest one is in another state. We love this kitty, but don't have unlimited resources to treat him. Is there any other options we can try before we commit to an expensive diagnosis and treatment plan. I have heard anecdotal reports of either hemp oil and/or additional taurine may help. Our guess is that this cat probably experienced some kind of physical trauma-like being hit by a car.

Hi, Recently my cat who is about one year old had her second liter of kittens. They are coming on three weeks old. Yesterday, my cat was looking sick and her meow was crackly. Someone let her outside yesterday morning, and she hasn’t come back which is unusual considering the fact that she has 5 kittens here and whenever she goes outside is back within 1-2 hours. We have a littler cat who is a couple months old and who happens to be a kitten from her first liter. She got sick first, and was acting the same way her mom is acting now. I was just wondering if it was normal for a mom cat to leave her babies when she’s sick? And will she come back?

My dog limps (her hind right leg) when she first wakes up but moves perfectly fine after awhile. Do you think she has something like arthritis? We cannot afford to go to the vet and I would like to avoid xrays unless you think it necessary.

Hi, I have a neutered 6yr old potty trained Chihuahua that started peeing in our guest bath in Sept. A trip to the vet revealed he had a mild urinary infection. Put him on meds and that seemed to stop the problem. It started again in November. Another trip to the vet, along with some blood tests showed he is perfectly healthy. I started to crate him again at night. Sometimes he will pee in the guest bathroom that has been cleaned, on/off again during the day when we are gone. There is a pet door that is always open during the day that he and our cat use. The dog & cat have grown up together. Not sure why he is doing this other than he is just too lazy to go out? I've thought about spraying some pet No No type stuff where he pees, but afraid he will find another place to do the job and not sure if it works. Thankful that he has chosen the bathroom, but still... why? Other then retraining him by crating at night, do you have any suggestions?

Samson is the only one of my 8 dogs born here (Jan. 12, 2008) and the only survivor of 7 pups. His father was a purebred Malinois. His mother, a Shepherd mix, was only 8 months old. A local vet said Molly was too young to pass along essential immunization. Except for excessive anxiety and barking, Samson has grown up normally until an hour ago when he was hustled outdoors to vomit. He did not vomit, however; rather he stumbled toward the front yard and staggered right into a tree. He seemed disoriented, panting, tail between his legs. I steadied him for 3-4 minutes before he walked off on his own (tail still lowered.) Within 12-15 more minutes, he seemed completely normal again. My question: In your opinion, is this likely to happen again? Should I have a vet check him anyway? Could it have been a small stroke (like the TIA I had in 2011)? A seizure of some sort? I'll appreciate your input.
