Dear DELTA Rescue,

My name is Gracie Rhodes and I am a junior at Seaside High School. I am writing a research paper about spay and neutering pets and was hoping you would be able to answer a few interview questions for me. What are all the benefits of altering an animal?

Why should a pet owner decide to spay or neuter their animal?

The benefits of altering your pet include the pet is less likely to wander from home, is less likely to be aggressive with other animals, has a lower risk of certain types of cancers, and tend to have a longer life than their unaltered counterparts.
An owner should have their pet altered primarily because thousands of animals are put to sleep every year for the lack of a home! Our Sanctuary exists because people abandon unwanted pets!
No, animals should not be allowed to have one litter. Most health benefits are realized if the pet is altered around six months of age.
There is a risk for every surgery that requires general anesthesia. However, these procedures in both males and females have a very low risk of complications.
