What causes limping?

My dog limps (her hind right leg) when she first wakes up but moves perfectly fine after awhile. Do you think she has something like arthritis? We cannot afford to go to the vet and I would like to avoid xrays unless you think it necessary.

Certainly the most common cause of a lameness that the pet “warms out of” is arthritis. This is typically confirmed with X-rays and an appropriate treatment plan is started. Usually this includes an anti-inflammatory, and some nutritional supplements, such as glucosamine chondroitin and hemp oil.
